His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Mohammed Saeed al-Hakeem advised a group of Muslims from Pakistan towards love, compassion and tolerance amongst the various parts of its society, and to distance themselves from segregation, and all forms of enmity and hatred. As such, the Muslims can benefit from one another. He advised them to act according to the laws of Islam.
His Eminence presented this advice to a group of university teachers from Pakistan.
He further advised that they should continue the commemoration of special occasions and the pilgrimage to the holy sites, in order to enrich themselves from the lives of the holy personalities and to follow in their righteous footsteps.
To conclude the meeting, His Eminence mentioned a narration from the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny): “The believer is a structure for another believer, each supporting one another.”
He prayed that Allah Almighty supports them in acting in His obedience, and that He accepts their pilgrimage.

Day Questions

My son has reached the age of religious adulthood (bulogh), and I have tried my best to explain the importance of the prayer and other obligations, but he still does not pray. How can I convince him to pray? Should I apply physical punishment? What is your advice?

Do not give up, and do not lost any hope in guiding him. Try to correct him by, maybe, getting more close to him and giving him more attention, so he might trust in you more and have more confidence in you and in your fatherhood, or by making friends with families who are religious, so they can also be a positive influence on him. If you continue in this manner then in time he will respond to you positively. It is natural in for a child in this age to pass through a phase of rebellion, especially in these times and circumstances in which there is a lot of emphasis on personal freedom.

Is it permissible to perform prayers sitting or lying in a case when we feel shy or discomfort?

Offering the obligatory prayers while sitting or lying down when being able to offer it in the regular way is not sufficient. Being shy or feeling discomfort is not a valid justification pray in this way. It is sufficient to pray sitting or lying down in the recommended prayers.

Is it permissible to conduct or summon spirits of our past relatives, considering it is done through the Quran?

The mentioned act is permissible by itself, but it is not permissible to believe in the information that can be retrieved by such ways. It is probable that the contact made by such ways is not with the intended spirits, but one could be a victim of the mischief of the devils and jinn so we warn from such things.
