>His Eminence Grand Ayatullah Sayyid Mohammed Sa’eed Al-Hakeem called the international community, including the United Nations, to assess the true reality of Iraq, and to express clearly the parties which believe in peace and peaceful co-existence, and to document the crimes that have occurred on the Iraqis by the terrorists, and to bring to account those parties who supported and funded the terrorists.

He made this statement on Tuesday 2nd Rabi-al-Awwal 1439, in a meeting with Ms. Agnes Callamard, the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner of Human Rights.

Ms. Callamard valued the positions of the religious Marja'iyya and its peaceful communication, which had and still has a powerful good effect on the hearts of people. She emphasized that Iraq has an opportunity to build for itself a future built upon human rights.

Day Questions

What are the rulings of the prayer of the traveler in Kufa and Karbala? Do they have the choice of offering full prayers? Is Najaf considered to be within Kufa?

The traveler is permitted to choose between offering a full or shortened prayer in the “haair” of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), and based on an obligatory precaution it is the place under the dome above the holy grave of the Imam and not beyond this area. This ruling does not include the city of Karbala at large. As for Najaf, it is not within the city of Kufa, so this law does not apply and shortened prayers is obligatory on the travelers in Najaf.
