The Press Release on the Tragedy at the Entrance of the Holy Shrine
2019/09/14

Indeed we are of Allah and to Him we shall return

It is with great sadness and pain that the news of the tragedy at the entrance of the holy shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) has reached us, which led to the loss of tens of lives, as they repeated the chant “Ya Husayn”, their hearts filled with the love and grief for the Ahlulbait (peace be upon them), during their participation of the Tuwairich Run on the afternoon of Ashura.
We, therefore, pay condolences to the Imam of our Time (may Allah hasten his reappearance) as well as to their grieving families, and to all the believers and lovers of the Ahlulbait (peace be upon them).
We call upon those responsible in the Iraqi government and the Custodianship of the Holy Shrines to establish sound plans and to take precautionary measures to ensure that such a tragedy does not occur again.
Similarly, we call upon all the respected visitors to the holy shrines – may Allah honour them – to act in coordination with the brothers who have been tasked with managing the millions of visitors in order to enable the illumination of godly teachings and guidance, and the expression of love and sorrow for the Ahlulbait (peace be upon them). Indeed, such service during this season is amongst the greatest of deeds in the eyes of Allah Almighty, and He is the greatest supporter and the Guardian of the believers.
In conclusion, we supplicate to Allah Almighty to bless those pure souls and to raise them in the highest ranks with the Master of Martyrs and his noble companions, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon them all. We pray that He inspires their loved ones who they leave behind with patience and solace, and that He blesses the injured with a quick recovery, for He is the Most Merciful.

Day Questions

Ziarat-e-Ashura is recommended to be recited for 40 days continuously. My question is Can a woman recite the ziarat during her menstrual cycle? At the end of the ziarat, there is one sajdah. If a woman does choose to recite the ziarat during her menstrual cycle, what does she have to do when she has to prostrate?

The mentioned ziyara is recommended every day and not only on a continuous 40 days. Yes, it is known to believers that reciting it continually is amongst the reasons to answer the requests in the supplications. The woman in her period can recite the ziyara without praying the two rakat prayers; she can do the rest including the prostration.

Where did the Infallibles get their knowledge from? Was it taught to them by their parents and the Prophet (peace be upon him) or was it all given to them directly from God?

It is reported in the narrations of the Ahlulbait (peace be upon them) that their knowledge is of two kinds: one is the inherited books from Imam Ali (peace be upon him) that he wrote down from the dictations of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). The other kind is the information that they need in their everyday life which they get from Almighty Allah.

Prior to the recent death of my Christian grandfather, he gave me $5,000. This would have been money I inherited, but he did not leave it to me in his will, to avoid having to pay taxes to the government on it. Must I pay khums on this money?

If your grandfather has given you the mentioned amount of money as a gift while he was alive, then it is an income subject to khums, similar to other earnings. If the money was given to you as a trust that you will own after his death, then it is an inheritance that is not subject to khums.

If one cannot pronounce the divorce formula in Arabic does he need to assign an agent (wakil) to do so?

No, it is not necessary to appoint an agent; if he is not able to pronounce it in Arabic, then he may do so in another language.
